Biotechnology, an opportunity to new products and future business
Biotechnology is the term used to define the set of sciences and techniques from systems biological or living organisms, develop and create new products. Biotechnology as such,
been used for thousands of years, between their applications include the production of products such as bread, beer, wine and cheese (through the addition of yeast in the process) . Today biotechnology can be applied in any industry that uses microorganisms, plant or animal cells. And today are already developing new products with results: Farming: development of plants resistant to diseases and pests (worms resistant cotton, potatoes resistant to beetles, etc.) Rice with higher levels of vitamin A or iron etc. Agro-industry, food containing microorganisms that when ingested generate profits in the health and functioning of the organism (probiotics / functional: yogurt, milk, meat) medicine: development of new molecules to fight diseases such as diabetes (insulin productionof ) arthritis, AIDS, cancer, regenerative medicine (tissue regeneration), etc. In chemistry: production of biodegradable detergents Environment: Removal of contaminants by biodegradation products (in sewage, in recovery of areas that have suffered oil spills, waste disposal in landfills). The energy, creating biofuels such as bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas, energy generation through waste.
Currently, a large number of companies and researchers around the world are working on
development of biotech products, which have already proven successful in market. United States, Germany, United Kingdom, France are the most proactive, and where are emerging the largest number of companies wholly or partly devoted to biotechnology. It is estimated that in 2010 the total value of the global biotech market will exceed 2 billion euros.
